Anita Drumming - Artist Headshot.jpeg

My art career began at a Graphic Service Agency. Hired as a Production Artist, I was able to sharpen my skills in photography, and given the opportunity build a Digital Photography Studio for the company. After a successful stint in advertising, I started to focus on the art of photography.

I was inspired by the candid images of Henri Cartier-Bresson, Eugène Atget’s atmospheric street scenes, Eugene Smith’s steel mill photos, and “Semillas y carton” by Gabriel Orozco. I began “seeing” differently. After a trip to Paris in May 2000, I was stimulated by the urban and cultural landscape.

I returned home to New York and began capturing images of my own surroundings with an artistic eye. Armed with my unique perspective and my camera, I began focusing on the elemental details of architecture and organic forms using composition and light to sculpt compelling, illustrative images. From the contrast of urban and rural landscapes to the beauty of old and new, my work highlights the graphic and abstract nature of things.
