BIO / STATEMENT
I am primarily a figurative artist working frequently in water-based media. For me, capturing the model’s expressive qualities and attitude is every bit as challenging as getting the pose right—and often as elusive as a goal. I like to use wet and dry media together, as in this drawing of Donna Severin, to convey what I find compelling in models whose bodies and beauty defy conventional standards so widely marketed as ideals today.
My watercolor irises, a departure from my figurative work, are an attempt to allow myself considerable freedom with a difficult medium. Taking advantage of its fluid character and exploring the vibrancy of its palette are goals I continue to explore.
