Susan Friend is a New York City and East Hampton based artist deeply inspired by nature. Her work is primarily done in oil and features waterscapes and skyscapes. In Susan's art she strives to create a viewing experience in which the viewer can find an escape from the stress that is day to day.
Born and raised in New York City, Susan's artistic journey began as a drama student at the School of Performing Arts. Susan went on to form her own sales and marketing company. During that time she nurtured her creativity through designing and maintaining her East Hampton garden. That garden ultimately appeared in featured articles in the East Hampton Star and Long Island's Newsday. An imaginative cook as well, Susan hoped that these creative outlets could be a springboard to painting. as these endeavors focus on scale, color, texture composition and more. Upon retirement Susan was finally able to full fill her desire to paint. She began her studies at the Salmagundi Club in New York City. There she received a Best in Show award.
Currently Susan studies at the Art Students League in New York and when in East Hampton at the Victor D'Amigo Institute of Art, an affiliate of MOMA. Her paintings are in homes in New York City, Long Island, California, Poland, and Singapore and China.
